New photography gallery is online
by Dave Wilson on May.31, 2008, under Uncategorized
I’ve just opened my new online photography gallery. This offers me a site from which I can sell images (or, at least, link directly to ImageKind which sells them on my behalf) while offering a gallery layout that I actually like (unlike, for example, Flickr or ImageKind, both of whose default layouts are rather bland). Take a look and let me know what you think!
Volcano Agua
by Dave Wilson on May.29, 2008, under Uncategorized
I’ve been revisiting some of my Guatemala pictures from last summer and played with this one last night. The original (which you can see by clicking the image) gets a fair number of views (it shows up on the first line if you search for “Volcano Agua Guatemala” in Google images) but I was never happy with it. The new, dramatic, version is a lot more to my liking.
Wildflower Center Tower and Arch

I spent a couple of hours at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center on Sunday and experimented with some outdoor HDRs. This is my favourite of the set. It was taken with a Sigma 10-20mm zoom at the wide end and is derived from 3 exposures at -2, 0 and +2 EV. I used Photomatix to generate the basic HDR then pulled the image into Photoshop where I sharpened it a bit and blurred the sky (since Photomatix, or at least the setting I was using, seems to generate some pretty wicked noise in areas containing smoothly varying tones).
Whitetail Fawn

I finally got a picture of one of the new fawns living near the house. This was grabbed hastily with my point-and-shoot a couple of mornings ago after taking Cameron to school. The fawn was lying by the neighbour’s fence trying to hide. I took a couple of quick photos (rather too close, really) but he ran off before I could reframe and take a few more.
We have a huge number of deer in the neighbourhood so there is a good chance I’ll stumble upon other fawns in the next few weeks and get another chance to take more photos.
Stink Bugs on a Thistle
by Dave Wilson on May.03, 2008, under Uncategorized
Here’s a photo I took on Thursday while out for a walk with Drew. He is great at spotting bugs and these stink bugs were having a party on a thistle so we both stopped to take a look. This was taken with my Canon Powershot G9 point-and-shoot and I’m pretty impressed with the camera’s close focus capability.
